Type Locality and Naming
Mid-South Sichuan. The Chaowanping Fm was named by Southwest Institute of Geology in 1965. The type section is at Dengxiangying-Chaowanping, Xide County, Sichuan Province. One middle formation within the Dengxiangying Gr.
Synonym: (朝王坪组)
Lithology and Thickness
In the typical section, the Chaowanping Fm is composed of nonuniformly interbedded grey meta-sandstone, siltstone and phyllite, with meta-micro-conglomerate. The formation is 1864 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is in conformable contact with the overlying Darezha Fm (previously Dengxiangying Fm)
Upper contact
It is in conformable contact with the underlying Zegu Fm
Regional extent
Mid-South Sichuan. It is distributed around Dengxiangying-Chaowanping in Xide County and in Mianning County, Sichuan Province.
